We are now seeking a Civil Resident Engineer to join our expanding P&R division. This role is ideally suited to a proactive, detail-focused engineering professional who thrives in a dynamic construction environment and is passionate about delivering best‑in‑class civil infrastructure projects.
Role Purpose
As a Civil Resident Engineer, you will play a key role on-site, working closely with the P&R project team to oversee, coordinate and monitor the activities of the civil works subcontractor. You will ensure all works are delivered in line with approved designs, project specifications and client requirements, with a strong focus on quality, compliance, progress tracking and stakeholder communication.
You will support the Project Manager, Site Manager and Quantity Surveyor on commercial, technical and programme matters, while also liaising with client representatives to ensure excellence in execution and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the civil subcontractor complies with all Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures, maintaining accurate records throughout the project.
- Monitor, track and record site progress against the construction programme.
- Attend regular site meetings with the civil subcontractor and support the PM in implementing mitigation measures to protect programme delivery.
- Identify, record and communicate project risks in a timely manner.
- Liaise with the civil subcontractor on design variations, redesign requirements and associated technical queries.
- Carry out quality inspections and ensure full adherence to quality and audit systems.
- Manage and maintain records for the materials submittal process across subcontractors, civil designers and client representatives.
- Ensure all relevant safety file documentation is provided accurately and on an ongoing basis by the civil subcontractor.
- Support the project safety team in reviewing RAMS and other site safety documentation.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure all variations are captured, documented and communicated to the QS.
- Assist the PM and QS in reviewing subcontractor quotations for variations, ensuring appropriate approvals.
- Ensure compliance with the Client’s management systems and contractual requirements.
- Liaise with the electrical design and construction teams to ensure accurate civil installation and smooth handover to electrical works and the end client.
- Assist the Project Manager in preparing project close-out documentation.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders and act as an ambassador for Kirby throughout the project.
- Deliver all project commitments safely, on time and to the highest quality standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- BEng Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Proven experience supervising and inspecting civil construction works.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and construction methodologies.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of variation processes.
- Knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental systems and procedures.
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary project team.
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet demanding deadlines.
- Experience working on electrical utility or substation civil construction projects would be preferred but not essential
