Quality Control Lead

Project Quality Control Lead

Because “we’ll sort it at handover” isn’t a quality strategy.

Let’s be clear from the start:
This role is not about box‑ticking, filing reports that gather dust, or being the “quality police” no one listens to.

This is a senior, influential role for someone who understands how complex projects actually run — and how quality quietly falls apart when nobody truly owns it.

If you like bringing structure to chaos, influencing experienced project teams without drama, and leaving behind projects that genuinely work, read on.

The role
As Project Quality Control Lead, you’ll report directly to the Project Manager with a functional line into Group Quality. You’ll lead and manage all quality control activities across the project, ensuring quality is built in from day one — not inspected in at the end.

Your job is simple to explain and hard to execute:
Create a quality culture that sticks.

You’ll work closely with Engineering, Planning, Construction, Commissioning, EHS, Supply Chain and the Client, because quality doesn’t live in isolation — no matter how often people pretend it does.

What you’ll actually be doing

In practical terms, you will:
  • Lead by example on ethics, EHS, teamwork, diversity and quality behaviours
  • Own and drive the Project Quality Plan, Inspection & Test Plans, and ensure they evolve as the project progresses
  • Build strong working relationships across project teams and the supply chain
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement and turn them into action — not just observations
  • Implement meaningful KPIs covering commissioning completion, checklists, snags, room readiness and handover
  • Plan and manage walkdowns, ensuring inspections and checklists are complete well before W1 / W2 / W3
  • Run First‑of‑a‑Kind and benchmark programmes so issues are solved once — not repeatedly
  • Track defects, punch lists and snag trends, identifying systemic issues early
  • Manage non‑conformances properly, including root cause analysis and preventative actions
  • Support audits, inspections, receipt verification and calibration control
  • Deliver quality training, inductions, toolbox talks and quality communications that people actually engage with
  • Lead and develop the project quality team, setting clear standards and expectations
In short: you’ll make quality visible, measurable and defensible — without slowing the project down.

What we’re looking for

You’ll bring:
  • A third‑level qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services engineering — or a strong trades background with relevant experience
  • Around 10+ years’ industry experience, including 4+ years in a senior Quality Control / Quality Management role
  • Proven experience delivering clean handovers on complex projects
  • Quality Management certification (preferred, not essential)
  • Lead or Internal Auditor qualification
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills — clear, structured and factual
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives that actually worked
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence dealing with senior stakeholders, clients and subcontractors
  • Strong EHS awareness and compliance experience
Data Centre experience is highly desirable.

Why this role is worth considering

  • You’ll have real influence, not just responsibility
  • You’ll shape how projects are delivered — not just how they’re audited
  • You’ll work with senior teams who understand that quality is a commercial advantage
  • You’ll leave projects better than you found them
And most importantly:
You’ll hand over projects that work — and don’t come back to bite people six months later.
