Project QC Lead – Data Centre
Location: Milan, Italy
Let’s set expectations early.
This role exists so quality doesn’t become an afterthought, a spreadsheet exercise, or something people argue about at handover.
This role exists so quality doesn’t become an afterthought, a spreadsheet exercise, or something people argue about at handover.
We’re looking for a Project QC Lead to provide leadership, structure and expertise across all quality control deliverables on a major data centre project in Milan. You’ll own the quality programme end‑to‑end, making sure standards are clear, inspections happen when they should, and issues are closed before they become problems.
If you’re comfortable holding the line on quality — even when the programme is tight — you’ll fit right in.
The Role
As Project QC Lead, you are responsible for managing overall project conformance across Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural and Architectural scopes. You will lead the quality function on site, working closely with construction, engineering, commissioning, EHS, supply chain and client teams to ensure quality is built in, not inspected in at the end.
This is a hands‑on, site‑based leadership role with real influence over how the project is delivered.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Leadership & Culture
You will:
- Lead by example in ethics, EHS, teamwork, cultural awareness and quality behaviours.
- Champion a “right first time” mindset and a culture of pride in the projects delivered.
- Ensure compliance with all project EHS requirements, including PPE, permits and procedures.
- Support the development of project‑specific method statements where required.
- Build strong working relationships with cross‑functional teams and client stakeholders.
Quality Planning & Control
You will:
- Review quality contract requirements, specifications, deliverables and scope of works.
- Lead the Quality Control programme for all contracted scopes.
- Develop, implement and maintain the Project Quality Plan and Inspection & Test Plans.
- Continuously monitor the effectiveness of the quality programme and update as required.
- Ensure all project teams understand and apply Kirby Management System processes and procedures.
Construction Phase Delivery
You will:
- Chair and lead the project QC kick‑off meeting with subcontractors and package leads.
- Review construction methodologies, including off‑site manufacturing, and develop inspection matrices for on‑site and off‑site works.
- Ensure adequate on‑site QC coverage to support turnover, start‑up and room/area handover dates.
- Manage the performance of QC staff on the project.
- Attend project meetings with clients and subcontractors, providing clear updates on quality performance.
Inspections, KPIs & Reporting
You will:
- Implement KPI tracking tools to provide real‑time insight into inspections, checklists, snags, room readiness and handover status.
- Oversee completion of inspection checklists and snag closure ahead of turnover and walkdowns.
- Review punch lists, defects and snags, tracking close‑out performance and identifying trends.
- Implement First of Kind and Benchmark programmes, ensuring standards are visible and understood on site.
- Produce weekly and monthly quality performance reports.
Continuous Improvement & Training
You will:
- Proactively identify areas for improvement and implement corrective action plans.
- Encourage engagement with lessons learned to drive better outcomes.
- Facilitate quality training, inductions, toolbox talks and quality communications.
- Establish recognition initiatives to highlight good quality performance.
Compliance & Control
You will:
- Maintain control of non‑conformance processes, including investigation, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ensure test equipment is suitable, calibrated and correctly recorded.
- Verify receipt of materials, plant and equipment against approved submittals.
- Ensure all quality records are maintained within the project common data environment.
What We’re Looking For
You will typically have:
- Proven experience in a Project QC Lead or senior QC role on large construction projects.
- Strong exposure to data centres, pharmaceuticals or other regulated environments.
- A solid understanding of inspections, audits, testing and quality management systems.
- Confidence to challenge standards and drive accountability across all disciplines.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- A practical, delivery‑focused approach to quality.
Why This Role?
- Major data centre project in Milan with real complexity.
- A site‑based role with authority to influence outcomes.
- A business that treats quality as a delivery requirement, not a slogan.
- Long‑term opportunities across a strong European project pipeline.
The Bottom Line
This role suits someone who wants to own quality on the project, not just report on it.
Someone who understands that good quality doesn’t slow projects down — it stops them going wrong.
If that sounds like you, this is a role worth stepping into.
