Lead Electrical Engineer – Data Centre Project
Most job ads promise big, exciting projects.
This one actually delivers them.
We’re Kirby Group, and we build the data centre infrastructure that keeps the digital world running. Now we’re looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer who’s comfortable owning the technical delivery on a major construction project — someone who enjoys turning design intent into a live, functioning installation without needing a rescue team to find space for the cabling.
If you’re the type who spots design issues early, keeps the technical conversation moving, and doesn’t get fazed when the commissioning phase starts breathing down everyone’s neck, you’ll fit in well.
What You’ll Be Doing As the Lead Electrical Engineer on a flagship data centre build, you will:
- Review electrical designs with an honest, detail‑driven eye — identifying gaps, contradictions or anything that’ll cause rework later.
- Validate cable sizing and make recommendations grounded in safety, compliance and common sense.
- Drive technical assessments and resolve issues efficiently, keeping the project on track.
- Prepare electrical technical submittals and navigate them through the approvals process.
- Track procurement, delivery and verification of equipment — because assumptions don’t power anything.
- Represent engineering in supply chain meetings, ensuring progress aligns with the construction programme.
- Keep system trackers updated, accurate and aligned with the schedule.
- Work closely with BIM to ensure the design is actually buildable and maintainable in the real world.
- Coordinate with design teams, suppliers and vendors to ensure correct operation of plant and systems.
- Conduct electrical walk‑downs to confirm installations match drawings and specifications.
- Compile test packs, FTOPs and O&Ms — and manage them through approval.
- Oversee specialist vendors during commissioning to ensure they complete on time.
- Deliver client training in line with the agreed plan.
- Maintain high standards of information security in line with the Kirby ISMS.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience leading electrical engineering activities on major construction or data centre projects.
- Strong ability to identify design risk early and address it collaboratively.
- Confidence managing vendors, design teams and supply chain partners.
- Clear documentation and communication skills — and the discipline to keep them consistent.
- A practical, solutions‑focused mindset when schedules tighten and priorities shift.
