Junior Quantity Surveyor – Data Centre
(For people who want to learn the commercial side properly, not just “sit in QS meetings”)
If you’re looking for a QS job where you mostly update spreadsheets and wait to be told what to do, this won’t be the one.
If you want to develop into a proper commercial professional — someone who understands contracts, values variations correctly, negotiates confidently, and helps keep a complex data centre project financially on track — then keep reading.
We’re hiring a Junior Quantity Surveyor who’s hungry to learn, good with detail, and willing to get stuck into the real commercial work that makes a project successful (or saves it when it’s not going well).
This isn’t a spectator sport. You’ll be in the middle of the action.
What you’ll actually do
Not the “rotational graduate” version — the real job:
- Work closely with the Planning Engineer to track progress and identify variations before they disappear into the ether
- Support the preparation and follow‑up of claims — and learn how to negotiate them
- Make sure payment certificates are issued on time (a surprisingly big deal)
- Report to the Project Manager on the commercial position of the project
- Keep accurate records of certificates, claims and retentions
- Follow up on retentions so money doesn’t sit in limbo forever
- Meet with clients or their representatives when needed
- Understand the contract — because the contract is the bible in commercial management
- Ensure claims are structured properly and nothing gets missed (day works, unit rates, contract work, escalations, all of it)
- Work closely with the Senior QS to understand how decisions actually affect project margin
In short: you’ll learn how a data centre project is commercially run — end to end.
Who you’ll work with
You’ll report to the Commercial Manager / Senior QS, and collaborate with:
- Planning
- Project Management
- Engineering
- Supply chain
- Clients
These are the people who will teach you fast — because data centre projects move fast.
What you’ll need
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- An interest in becoming a strong technical and commercial professional
- A willingness to learn and take responsibility
- Good communication, numeracy and organisational skills
- Attention to detail (the boring stuff is often the expensive stuff)
Who this suits Someone who:
- Actually wants to understand how the commercial side of a major project works
- Likes solving problems with numbers, contracts and logic
- Wants a clear path to becoming a Senior QS
- Doesn’t mind getting involved early, asking questions and making things happen
- Appreciates the scale, pace and complexity of a data centre build
Why this role matters
Data centres have tight programmes, high expectations, and almost no room for error.
A strong commercial team is the difference between a profitable project… and a painful one.
You’ll learn how to protect margin, manage risk and deliver value — properly.
“Special consideration will be given to candidates belonging to protected categories under L. 68/99.”
