Electrical Project Engineer – Data Centre Projects

About the Role
We are recruiting an Electrical Project Engineer to join our team on a major data centre project. This role offers the opportunity to work on one of the most technically advanced and fast‑growing sectors in construction. You will take responsibility for electrical engineering activities from design coordination through installation, commissioning, and project handover.
Working alongside the Project Manager and multidisciplinary site teams, you will ensure all electrical systems are designed, installed, tested, and commissioned to the highest standards, supporting the delivery of a world‑class facility for our client.
Key Responsibilities Design & Technical Leadership
- Carry out detailed electrical design reviews, identifying any gaps, inconsistencies, or deviations, particularly in relation to data‑centre‑specific systems.
- Validate cable sizing and provide technical recommendations to ensure system resilience and compliance.
- Complete technical assessments promptly and work proactively to resolve engineering issues.
- Prepare, issue, and manage electrical technical submittals through the full approval cycle.
Procurement & Supply Chain Coordination
- Track procurement activities, equipment approvals, delivery schedules, and receipt verification for critical electrical components.
- Lead and record regular supply chain progress meetings to maintain alignment with the overall construction programme.
- Work closely with design teams and suppliers to ensure all equipment integrates seamlessly within a data centre environment.
Construction & Installation Support
- Collaborate with the BIM team to review constructability, ensure spatial compliance, and confirm suitability for installation and long‑term maintenance.
- Update system trackers aligned with the construction schedule to ensure real‑time visibility of progress.
- Conduct electrical system walk‑downs to verify installation quality and compliance with specifications, drawings, and data-centre industry standards.
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Manage specialist vendors throughout the commissioning phase to ensure timely completion and robust system performance.
- Compile test packs, FTOPs, and O&M documentation for approval.
- Support end‑user training in line with the agreed training plan.
- Assist in achieving a seamless handover of all electrical systems to the client.
Information Security
- Actively protect project information and adhere to the Kirby Information Security Management System (ISMS).
What You’ll Bring
- Experience working on complex industrial or data centre projects (advantageous).
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering principles, systems, and installation standards.
- Ability to understand and interpret detailed technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with confidence engaging suppliers, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- A proactive, solutions‑focused approach to problem‑solving.
