Electrician apprentice

Kirby provides 15 spaces in the Electrical Engineering Graduate Programme each year. During the two-year graduate programme, you will be assigned a mentor to develop your technical skills for your Electrical Engineering career.

You will complete reports on 10 electrical systems and short placements and assigned to a project where you will manage one to two packages to improve your managerial skills.

Throughout the period, you will complete several short placements working as an Electrical Engineer with the Estimating, Quality, EHS, Planning and Quantity Surveying teams.

On successful completion of the programme, you will be promoted to Electrical Project Engineer.

Entry Requirement: Minimum Level 7 degree in Electrical Engineering, excellent communication skills and strong work ethic.

Locations where you could be based include Galway, Limerick, Dublin, Sweden, Milan, Netherlands, UK, Scotland, and South Africa.

The Mechanical Engineering Programme offers 10 places each year. A mentor will be assigned to each graduate for the two-year period to assist in career progression and provide advice on experience.

As a graduate, you will complete reports on 10 mechanical systems and short placements. During this time, you will be assigned to a project and given responsibility for managing one or two work packages to help develop your managerial skills.

Throughout the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Programme, you will also complete several short placements working as a Mechanical Engineer within the Estimating, Quality, EHS, Planning and Quantity Surveying teams.

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will be promoted to Mechanical Project Engineer.

Structural Engineering Graduate Programme

There are two places available on the Kirby Structural Engineering Graduate Programme. Over the two-year programme, you will be assigned a mentor to shadow and assist in developing your skills.

Throughout the programme you will complete reports on 10 structural systems and short placements. You will be assigned to a project during this time and take responsibility for one to two packages to develop your managerial skills.

Throughout the programme you will complete several short placements working as a Structural Engineer within the Estimating, Quality, EHS, Planning and Quantity Surveying teams.

On successful completion of the programme, you will be promoted to Structural Project Engineer.

Entry Requirement: Minimum Level 7 degree in Structural Engineering, excellent communication skills and strong work ethic.

Construction Management Graduate Programme

There are two places available on the Construction Management Graduate Programme. Over the course of the 36-month programme, you will be paired with a mentor to develop your skills and provide guidance. As part of the programme, you will complete five six-month rotations during your time on the graduate programme.

You will complete placements working alongside the Estimating, Planning, Quantity Surveying, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering teams. While on each rotation, you will be assigned to a project during your time working with each department and developing your internal business skills.

On successful completion of the programme, you will be promoted to Assistant Construction Manager.

Entry Requirement: Minimum Level 7 degree in Construction Management, excellent communication skills and strong work ethic.

Locations where you could be based include Galway, Limerick, Dublin, Sweden, Milan, Netherlands, UK, Scotland, and South Africa.

Engineering female bursary

Women in Engineering Scholarships

Each year, Kirby awards a bursary to female students to encourage women to pursue careers in engineering. The bursary programme is part of Kirby’s ongoing commitment to advance gender diversity within the evolving worlds of engineering and construction.

Who is the Student Bursary open to?

The bursary programme is open for applications from women studying Electrical, Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.

What is the selection process?

  • Submit your application.
  • Screening.
  • Round 1 of interviews.
  • Round 2 of interviews.
  • The Senior Management Team finalises the list of winners scored against specific criteria and competencies.

What you will receive
