Role Purpose
As Electrical Engineer you will be responsible for the lead technical support on projects, from initial enquiry and tendering right through to construction, commissioning and energisation across all Kirby business units. The role will require an adaptable and agile individual who will work with various sections across the entire business, with a particular emphasis on the MV electrical elements of M&E projects. While the role will be primarily focusing on M&E installations and projects, the successful applicant will be part of the transmission and distribution (T&D) engineering team affording them the opportunity to expand their knowledge and experience on electrical installations up to 400kV.
  
Electrical Engineer Responsibilities
In conjunction with your project team, you will be responsible for the execution of various stages of a project as follows:
  

  • Review tender documents and electrical requirements, validating the proposed design, assessing and proposing alternative solutions
  • Identifying key aspects of projects for consideration
  • Identifying areas of potential commercial risk on projects and development of a risk register
  • Working with the supply chain to prepare compliant and cost-effective solutions
  • Preparing technical inputs for tender submissions and Client presentations
  • Provide technical input to ensure realistic and accurate project programmes are developed
  • Managing major supplier interfaces including submissions and deliverables
  • Coordinate the submission and closure of all technical queries relating to the MV and LV design
  • Liaising with both the internal, Client and 3rd party project teams to ensure constructability and timely delivery
  • Review of BIM models to ensure keep aspects are captured including constructability, access and maintenance
  • Manage technical interfaces to ensure completeness and technical compliance with specifications (e.g. between generator control and switchgear vendors)
  • Working with the QC teams to ensure adequate inspections and snagging of work takes place
  • Manage the execution of protection and discrimination studies
  • Closing out projects, including providing inputs for O&M documentation and identifying key lessons learnt

  
Necessary requirement of the Electrical Engineer
  

  • 3rd level Qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering design/project management experience on industrial installation projects
  • Professional and commercial acumen and be capable of representing Kirby at a senior level in meetings
  • Detailed understanding of MV and LV network requirements in industrial settings, with particular emphasis on resilience and studies requirements
  • Experience with energy management systems and integration of automated control systems to electrical networks
  • A proven track record of delivering projects on time and to budget
  • Experience of managing multiple projects at the one time
  • Strong IT skills
  • A flexible and delivery focused mind-set
  • Excellent communicator/strong interpersonal skills/communicates with impact
